The first room with the entrance, if I were to pick a square I'd say D12.

Jeremiah wrote:"Lets drag Gumphrey's body back to the entrance and remove his possessions. We will need to bury this body at some point." ... "I don't think it wise to just explore here with the two of us, we will make camp down here Flint while we wait for the others to return. I just wish to keep an eye out for mittens, or the sandal wearing explorer."
Flint helps Jeremiah strip Gumphrey's body and bury it the sandy floor. Then, he helps construct a small campfire in the northwest corner of the first room.

Jeremiah wrote:He will make "rounds" only in the areas that have been explored, with Flint keeping an eye on the entrance at all times.
After the camp has been built and Gumphrey's body properly buried, Jeremiah makes his first rounds. Nothing seems amiss in any of the three bedrooms. Nothing seems amiss in the Golem room. In the first library, the two remaining Gargoyles seem surprised to see Jeremiah still wandering around, but they keep their distance. Nothing seems amiss in other library, either.

When he finishes his rounds, Jeremiah returns to the camp. "Any sign of them?" Flint asks.

A short while later, his keen senses detect whispered voices, nearby. After a moment of listening, he is able to make out some of the conversation ... and realizes it's the two gargoyles. He can't see them, but he recognizes their voices.

"It's just the two of them, now?"
"Where are the others?"
"I don't know ... but perhaps we should strike, now, while the moment is right?"

Jeremiah and Flint will alternate a few quick cat naps, if they hear more noise come from the gargoyles they will take to Jeremiahs plan.

Sensing Halvar's excitement, Elodie pats him on the shoulder. "Great work, Halvar! You've probably helped save lives! Do you havea few minutes to escort us to the Temple? Talmut and I are in bad shape, and Gumphrey, well...I'll explain on the way, if you come along."

Elodie will continue on to the Temple with Talmut, Lindy, and possibly Halvar, to find a powerful cleric.

OOC: Can I send Lindy to go get the oils needed for Gumphrey's Reincarnation? In other words, can she access Elodie's gold if given permission?

Elodie wrote:"Great work, Halvar! ... Do you have a few minutes to escort us to the Temple?"
Elodie will continue on to the Temple with Talmut, Lindy, and possibly Halvar, to find a powerful cleric.
So ... Halvar, Lindy, Elodie, Talmut, and Gumphrey's finger make their way to the temple.

As before, the entrance consists of two massive ornate oak doors. The symbol of Odin, the Valknut, is carved into each door at the top and center. Underneath it, the symbols of the other gods are also carved, albeit much smaller. Each door also sports a wrought iron knocker: one bearing the likeness of a raven's head with an iron ring held in its beak; the other bears the likeness of a wolf's head with another iron ring held in its mouth.

Halvar swings the doors open and marches in. Everyone else follows.

The main nave runs from the front door all the way to the far end of the building ...  the entire stretch, nearly three stories high. The arched ceiling is painted with a scene of Odin's ordeal at Mimir's well. A narrow balcony runs across both sides, roughly twenty feet above the floor. Even the floor is ornate: every tile is etched with masterful runes and polished to an illustrious shine.

Several transepts cross the main Nave (some large and some small), each ending at a shrine to one of the other gods: Manannan Mac Lir, Grannus, Balder, etc. As she gets close to the end, she finds that the largest shrines are dedicated to Thor and Frigga ... both are dwarfed, however, by the main chapel in the temple's apse. The last dedication sits under a massive four-story dome which houses the altar and icons of the temple's patron deity: Odin, the All-father.

The main apse is so wide, that it's almost a building in and of itself. A colossal statue of Odin dominates the room. Behind the statue, sits a raised dais and an old stone altar that seems mysteriously out of place. A thousand candles placed around the room keep the place well-lit ... including the tragic battle displayed in paint on the inside of the temple's main dome.

One of the clerics approaches the group.
Elodie wrote:OOC: Can I send Lindy to go get the oils needed for Gumphrey's Reincarnation? In other words, can she access Elodie's gold if given permission?
OOC: You would have to arrange that in advance. She can't just show up and say "I have permission" ... but you could certianly authorize her to do so, but you'd have to set-it-up in person.

Just as Jeremiah finishes these words, the two Gargoyles come charging into the room.

The cleric asks Elodie to describe the symptoms. After listening, he tells her that it will cost 380 gold EACH for the necessary curative prayers.

Talmut has enough gold on him to get himself cured, but he does not have enough to cover Elodie.

OOC: I subtracted the cost from Talmut's character sheet ... he is fully restored.

"I need to go fetch some gold. I'll be back shortly." Before heading to the Adventurer's Guild to retrieve some gold, she turns to Talmut. "I think we should spend the rest of the afternoon and evening here in town, and head back to meet up with Jeremiah tomorrow morning. That way, we'll have Gumphrey with us. After you're done here, do you want to take a look at this book?" Elodie will give Talmut the tome that she took from the room with the talking gargoyles.

Elodie will then head to the Adventurer's Guild to take care of business. First, she will show the shopkeeper the crystal and explain its powers, and then inquire about its worth. After that, she will retrieve 1300 gold pieces from her vault and ask about purchasing oils for a reincarnation spell. Then, she will head back to the Temple to be healed, leaving 380 gold pieces with the cleric for his services. Finally, she will retire to The Jolly Toad, and ask for a hot bath in her room. She will take a moment to use her wand to cure her injuries. She will have dinner with Lindy (if Lindy cares to join her) before resting for the night.  She will wake early enough to spend an hour or so in the forest to refresh her druidic powers.

Use Wand of Cure Serious Wounds, cures 20 HP.

R&R - Round 1

Init 27
Jeremiah rushes forward and strikes the injured gargoyle with his axe.

- OOC: Remember, you can only take one attack if you move more than 5 feet (1 square).

Init 21
The two gargoyles jostle for position, maneuvering to opposite sides of the dangerous woodsman. They do their best to sink their claws and teeth and horns into their foe; Jeremiah, however, manages to fend off most of their attacks ... but not all.

- I13: 5' step to H12 to set-up Flank
- Full-round: Claw/Claw/Bite/Horns: Natch 1/Natch 1/Natch 1/18 (All Misses)
- OOC: Three natural 1's in a row?

- I15: 5' step to H14 to set-up Flank
- Full-round: Claw/Claw/Bite/Horns: 26/20/18/14 (Two Hits): 7 damage and 6 damage

Init 4
Flint races to provide assistance, cutting through the shadows toward tactical position ... he ends his run by jamming his trident in a gargoyle's back.

- Flint moves to G16, then H16, then H15 to set-up a Flank.
- Attack Roll (with Trident) = 29; Miss Chance = 31 (Hit); 6 Damage

Talmut agrees with her plan.
Elodie wrote:to the Adventurer's Guild ... she will show the shopkeeper the crystal and explain its powers, and then inquire about its worth
The old man verifies her earlier findings: the crystal is enchanted to produce light, but a command word will toggle the crystal between it's full light-producing power and its super-reflective state. He offers her 55 gold coins for it.
Elodie wrote:After that, she will retrieve 1300 gold pieces from her vault and ask about purchasing oils for a reincarnation spell.
The Guild is well-stocked in the necessary oils. They cost 1000 gold.
Elodie wrote:she will head back to the Temple to be healed, leaving 380 gold pieces with the cleric for his services.
The power of Odin returns Elodie's health to her.
- OOC: Remove all ability damage and ability drain.
Elodie wrote:Finally, she will retire to The Jolly Toad, and ask for a hot bath in her room. She will take a moment to use her wand to cure her injuries. She will have dinner with Lindy (if Lindy cares to join her) before resting for the night.
Lindy gladly joins her for dinner!
Elodie wrote:She will wake early enough to spend an hour or so in the forest to refresh her druidic powers.
After communing with nature, she returns to find Talmut, Halvar, Lindy, and Glory waiting for her in the common room.

"So...should we go upstairs for a few minutes?" Elodie will invite everyone up to her room for the event. She pulls a chair to the center of the room and places Gumphrey's severed finger on the seat of the chair, and anoints it with oil. She places her hands on top of the finger and closes her eyes, chanting quietly as she focuses her powers on the finger.

Reincarnate roll result: 09.

R&R - Round 2 ...

Init 27
Relentless, Jeremiah strikes the injured gargoyle ... again and again and again ... until the vile creature flops to the floor, bleeding and dead.

Init 21
The other gargoyle cries out. "NOO! This is all just a misunderstanding! We came to help you!"

Init 4
Flint stops his attack, momentarily, and says, "Wait, really? Oh, I am so sorry. Quick! Maybe we can stop the bleeding!"
Flint moves to help the fallen creature.

She places her hands on top of the finger and closes her eyes, chanting quietly as she focuses her powers on the finger.
Like magic, the finger begins to glow, as Gumphrey's spirit is pulled into it from the netherworld. Then, the nature spirits contribute to Gumphrey's new body, adding to it from the elements at hand. Slowly, the finger begins to swell, plumping like a sausage, and then it grows ... and grows ... until a naked man stands before the group. Short and stout, the little man bears no resemblance to Gumphrey ... except in the eyes. His eyes are most definitely Gumphrey's.

The little man tugs at his long, unkempt beard and murmurs, "What has happened to me? Why do I have so much hair?"

Standing barely 12 hands high, and weighing close to 16 stone, his question seems extremely poignant ... what kind of man IS he, now?

Elodie notices that he bears a striking resemblance to the so-called Dwarves of mythology ... but as far she knows, Dwarves are just that: myth. Certainly, she has never seen one before, nor met anyone who has ever seen one.

"Hm, well...that's different. Here, Gumphrey." Elodie pulls a blanket off of her bed and hands it to him so that he can cover himself. "I'm not sure how much you remember, but things got a little nasty while we were exploring and you didn't exactly make it back out alive. But that's okay, because I was able to bring you back! You're just a little...different. I think you actually might be a dwarf!"

Elodie passes 20 gold pieces to Lindy. "Can you go find some clothes to fit either a short man or a stout child?" She looks at Gumphrey again, and then corrects herself: "Probably safest to go with the stout child."

Elodie wrote:"... you didn't exactly make it back out alive. But ... you actually might be a dwarf!"
"A dw ... a dwarf?" Gumphrey stammers. "Dwarves aren't real, are they? Elodie?" He takes a long look at himself, and repeats, "A dwarf?"

Elodie wrote:20 gold ... "Can you go find some clothes to fit ... a stout child?"
Lindy returns a short while later. "They didn't have anything, um, stout enough ... so I bought the biggest outfit I could find, and asked the tailor to hem  it really short. They thought I was crazy, but they did it. Here, try this on."

She hands Gumphrey a set of sturdy boots, leather breeches, a thick belt, a linen shirt, a cotton jacket, leather gloves, an ample cloak, and a wide-brimmed hat. Then, she gives Elodie a handful of coins. "Here's your change ... it was only ten."

Gumphrey tries on the new attire ... and while the outfit doesn't fit perfectly, it fits well-enough for travel. "So, where's all my gear?" he asks.
